The Garonne as a horizon.
Bordeaux stretches along the Garonne with remarkable architectural coherence. Pale stone façades, Place de la Bourse and the quays recall commerce, river trade and ambitious urban projects. The old centre is not a static set: its streets keep changing with the people who live and work there.
A walk might begin around Place de la Bourse, the riverfront and the Chartrons district. These landmarks are different, yet together they reveal the identity of Bordeaux: a sense of place, architectural memory and everyday habits. Across Nouvelle-Aquitaine, visitors and residents do not necessarily see the same things. The destination deserves more than a handful of familiar images.
