Between two rivers and the hills.
Lyon grew at the meeting of the Rhône and Saône and across the hills above them. Vieux Lyon preserves its courtyards and passageways, while Croix-Rousse recalls the silk workers known as canuts. On the Presqu’île, squares and façades reveal another chapter of urban history.
A walk might begin around Vieux Lyon, Croix-Rousse and the Presqu’île. These landmarks are different, yet together they reveal the identity of Lyon: a sense of place, architectural memory and everyday habits. Across the Lyon region, visitors and residents do not necessarily see the same things. The destination deserves more than a handful of familiar images.
